Rogue Waves

Rogue waves come at us, just when we wish we could live forever – or at least outlive our grandchildren. Jill passed away on May 17th, 2012 in Saskatoon. Her memorial service – Tuesday, May 22nd at 2:00 at the Kindersley Alliance Church. Here are the final words in Jill’s journal, written two days [...]

Jill (Cooper) Baker [July 1, 1953 - May 17, 2012]

Jill Cooper was born on July 1st, 1953 to Allan and Betty Cooper. The second of five children, her heart began in less than pristine condition – in that day and age she was called a blue baby. Over the decades, Jill had a number of corrective heart surgeries. All this lent towards a lady [...]

Call to excellence

Our denomination has moved to an “ethics” package for ministers. After reading this over, and signing it, we have committed to preach it in our services. The document itself is designed for official (ie. paid) workers of the C&MA, but with some slight editorial work, works well! The document has a number of main points, [...]

On Facebooking, social networking and growing up

I was reminded that anyone born in the 1984 – 2000 generation is considered a millennial. My son was born in 1984. He sits on that tipping edge. Right where the slope starts upwards once again – into a new approach to communication. We’ve heard that the new generation is computer literate – their source [...]

The cold that lingers

My wife continues to deal with a cold that hangs on, hangs out and hangs in. Today she stepped out for a few minutes and came back a bit exhausted. Later I talked to my daughter – she has a daughter who has a cold. And my sister-in-law phoned – her cold continues on. What [...]

Back Home

A week away! Great times visiting. But colds tracking us! Jill is watching herself carefully – the coughing is still there but hopefully a bit less intense. I was in to the office and work for around 11 hours. Spent the evening doing very little. And now to bed – hopefully both of us will [...]

Cold comes on

The last few days I’ve been fighting a cold. I’m not always sure how you fight a cold. I took some lemon drink that helps fight the symptoms of a cold. I put oil of oregano under my tongue (great approach to fighting a cold!). I took some other medications. And used kleenex! Now, I’m [...]

Slogans

I’ve become known amongst some people for my slogans. Most are lame (they need another leg to walk on?). Some are just a thought for the moment. Others seem to last. One phrase we have been using at our church has been – “committed to the community.” I’ve been looking at adding two further thoughts [...]

Do we need a therapist?

I’ve finished reading a book called “11″, by Leonard Sweet. Here is an interesting statement from his acknowledgements: “In a culture where the commoditication of relationships is so severe that we have disposable kinfold, it may come as somewhat of a surprise that “good relationships” are key to a healthy, happy life. This book was [...]
