Mentoring in measure

Mentoring is big in the business world.   The need for moral tutelage, administrative savvy, and what we call “wisdom” is evident.

Not that mentoring wasn’t going on.  When you put white paper up against a snowflake, you can miss all the snowflakes.  But when you put black paper up against a snowflake, you soon see how few (or how many) are swirling around.

When you find a hole, you try to plug it as fast as you can.  The immediate reaction was to flood the market with information, seminars and “how to” gurus.  But what is the measure of a mentoring situation?

Time is required.  Perhaps as short as three years?  Jesus didn’t have his mentorees for any longer.  Perhaps as long as a lifetime?  Elijah and Elisha had time together – until Elijah died.

Trust is required.  When the credit that has built in a relationship is “dis”credited, in many ways rebuilding credit is twice as hard.

Watch out you aren’t building robots!!  Who would want to look like you anyway!    Share a bit of the light you understand and let it rub off!

The town's fine dam

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, come to Kindersley!

I looked through the viewfinder of my camera yesterday.  I saw a beautiful body of water (someone suggested I call this blog today, “A fine ‘dam’ town!”).  We walked around the dam with an old friend of my fathers, saw a skateboarder, a fisher, a family.   Where else would you want to be!

And then of course, across the expanse of water we could just see . . .

Excitement and Church Board in the same breath?

Just finished a six hour Friday/Saturday board retreat.

We were neither board (bored) nor retreating.  I had great fun with the three other men on our church board.  They laughed, cried, prayed, planned and walked away with excitement.

We took a great vision statement that was put together in the early 90’s.  In affirming it’s relevance for today, we hashed it around (I’ve got to watch the words I use, one of the board members was a “hippie” in his days and knows what hash is!), turned it upside down (another member works with Kindersley Transport – got to watch which way up you put things in your trucks), and painted a new word picture (the last board member does maintenance for a condo in town!).

So, here is what we are about:

God Celebration, Ministry Preparation, People Support and Community Care.

We recognize that for the next while that will include an emphasis on Diversity in Unity, Outreach and having an Equipping Culture.

All of this will need to be wrapped in constant, candid and consistent communication.

In God’s time and for His glory!

Logo for Life

You can put whatever background you want behind this logo.  You can put sunny days with flowers.  Or cloudy days with lightning strikes.  Or hospital beds.  Or family picnics.  Or life served good and bad.

Living with “Jesus in Me” over top of it all.

I’m finding this “Jesus in Me” adventure is just that – an adventure!  Now that I’ve turned 52, I feel like I’m back being 5 once again.  Learning anew what it means to accept Jesus into my life.  Day by day and hour by hour.
