When the bough breaks

Yes, the wind has been high.  I understand we were the wind capital of Saskatchewan on Friday night.

The days continue to exhibit the push of power.  Today people entering stores were headed, slanted, into the wind.

Often it is not so much the wind.  You can find shelter.  You can tighten up the coat.  You can even defiantly face into the wind.

But the sound.  Constant.  Unceasing.  Persistent.

I’m not sure if I associate destruction with wind.  Perhaps a hurricane victim would speak better to that.  Mexico and Hurrican Dean may be just the real life laboratory to test sight and sound — to associate dis-ease and destruction with sound and sight.

Tonight the wind has calmed — and somehow the soul joins in!

Winds that blow!

Last night we watched a thunder storm.  Not just thunder — but lightning and rain and wind.

Wind that blew branches off trees.  Wind that twisted a neighbour’s newly planted tree almost 45 degrees.  Wind that blew over a lawn chair, eavetroughing and some bricks.

We cannot see the wind.  We can certainly see the results.  We can harass the wind and transfer the power to electrical grids.  We can pressurize air and utilize it in pneumatic tools.  We can even stand in the wind and pretend to defy God.

But are we the authors of the wind?  Are we able to control the hurricane?

At best, we are observers.

And so, last night we took the time to stand and watch.

And in the midst — God is who he is, let all the earth keep reverent silence.

Back to work!

After a week and a half . . . I’m back in the office today.

Two priorities today — work on a possible Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast and prepare a sermon.  Both have been started.  As someone said, "Started is half done."

OK, so the sermon is just on the way and the breakfast needs some finishing touches.  But, we are on the way.

Then this evening, along with my sister-in-law and brother-in law, we visited a local acreage where horses abound.  The night was turning cold, but the opportunity was not one to pass up.  The guys checked out tractors and trailers and trucks.  The girls stuck with the horses.

And now, the home renovations are on TV entertaining us with design thoughts that seem a bit foreign.

Truly a day in the life!

Walking around the block

In the past, my wife and I have taken short walks around our neighbourhood.

The walks are only a few blocks.  Just enough to stretch at the end of the day.

On Monday, our daughter and her son joined us.  We ambled past some acquaintances who have ducks.  Christopher loved seeing the "quack, quacks".  Then there was another child who was out on his tricycle with his father.

Tuesday we rounded the block with Bob and Brenda added to the group.  Brenda is my wife’s sister — Bob is her husband.  We saw the ducks once again. And chatted.

Today the six of us are around once again.  We’ll chat once again, and probably walk and seek out some sights.  Tomorrow I’m back to work after a few days of holidays.

Where do the days go?
