OK, they weren’t street legal cars!  But they were cars that travelled down a track.  The cars had been fashioned over the years and were raced by club members.  I even found out one car was made at least 25 years ago.  I took a car that was made 15 years ago.  In the new year clubbers will make brand new cars and race them. 

In the end the winners had the newer cars.  And rather proud were they!!  Great fun for all.

Well, the sun came out this morning to a rather blustery day — garbage cans twisting down the streets, ball caps yanked from heads and dust blowing sideways!  But somehow, the image below gives you the feeling of true tranquility.  Amazing what lies behind a picture.

As the day progressed, our XYZ group (seniors) met for lunch.  We had some singing and a presentation by Richard and Janine Specht on bees — he’s an apiculturalist.  Did you know the name Deborah means "bee"?   OR that honey is mentioned 73 times in the King James Version of the Bible?  I was impressed with the complexity of bee culture — only a God who’s knowledge and ability is far beyond mine could have conceived of creatures so small able to do such wonderful works!

Believe it or not, we are related!  OK, for some of you not around in the 70’s and 80’s here’s a bit of info on him taken from the official site of the Canadian Football League.

• Played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1968 until 1973 and again in 1977-78. Played with B.C. Lions from 1974-76 and had a career total of 174 games. His credo was "Your opponents are only as tough as you let them be" and throughout his career, the "Undertaker" was known for his ferocious pass rush. Was named to the CFL All-Star team 4 times, All-Western team 5 times, played in the Grey Cup in 1969 and ’72 and was named the Schenley Outstanding Defensive Player in 1976. Was named the CFL’s President and Chief Operating Officer in December 1988, serving for one year.

Bill was in town wih his wife to look over some memorabilia from his grandfather’s store — C.W. Baker’s General Store.  The 98 year old building was demolished this past few weeks (at least that’s how old I’ve been told the store building was).  Bill is currently working in Calgary with an oil company.  He himself is great company and I enjoyed the time together.

Oh yes, the relationship is "shirt-tail" — I believe my grandfather was a cousin (once or twice removed) to Bill’s grandfather.  Nevertheless — great to meet in person and enjoy a few hours together!

Saturday morning we started North West to Luseland for a brunch.  Jason and Blanca had been on the Doulos, a ship travelling the world to take God’s message to people.

Then at 12:45 we were on the road again to Outlook for a concert in the evening.

Sunday morning was our remembrance day and International day of prayer for the persecuted church day.

All in all, some rather busy days!!

And now, I’m off to see Bill Baker, a shirt-tail relative — should be a fun visit.
