Some thoughts on visiting Meadow Lake

Meadow Lake is a beautiful town.  Right on the edge of lake country.  Trees and golf courses in lush green array.  I even loved the fact that I was probably outnumbered as an ethnic "White Caucasian!"

While there and in  the midst of meetings the following thoughts came to me.

1.  In a Calvin and Hobbes comic, Calvin says to Hobbes something to the effect — "The reason I thinkk there are intelligent beings in our universe is that none of them have tried to contact us!"  We do seem to have done a great job of messing things up — interestingly God has contacted us!

2.  Bach is reported to have said — "The purpose of music is to bring glory to God and recreation to the human soul."  We use music for a lot of other things, but maybe we would be better served to restrict its usage?

3.  "To be healed is not so much about being able to "do more things" for God, but about bringing glory to God."  I tend to think that it would be nice to get healed so I can throw myself back into all the stuff I think I should be doing.  Maybe it would be more important to see how God can use this, than to prove to others than I am a superman able to do everything!

SPN?

A while ago I became a member.

The group was called SPN.  At first the letters denoted – Strategic Planning Network.  The idea was to work out where churches could be started.

The group morphed into a regional pastors network.  The acronym RPN wasn’t quite right, but that was the idea.  We met for support and to consider furthering outreach in the area.

Now we are called are back to SPN.  Now the meaning is "Senior Pastor’s Network."

That’s where I will be the next two days.  In Meadown Lake.  Lake country of Saskatchewan!  Work and pleasure!!

Gorgeous day.  Lots of sun and hot dogs.

As a service to our community we provide instruction on bike riding to children ages 5  – 13.  The parents join us.  Fun is had by all.

Sunday is our church picnic.  Already looks like rain will be our lot!  And a game of Survivor to boot!

Allison, Christopher and Jill arrive

Yesterday I got into clean up mode.

I’d been renovating our bathroom over the last while.  Tools got placed "our of place", white drywall mud seeped into the cracks of the floors and walls, and furniture had been moved.

Part of the afternoon was spent in undoing the damage.  I washed floors, vacuumed everything, hung doors and replaced furniture.  The basement looked great (as great as you can look in the midst of renovations!).

Around 7:00 the gang arrived.  Christopher (my grandson) is now 1 1/2 years old.  He loves to laugh and play.  I lay on the floor, hoisted him on my knees and generally enjoyed having him here.  His mother, Allison, is doing a great job in raising him.  Her husband, Scott, will be down on the weekend to pick them up.

So, the next few days I’ll spend time with family, as well as finish  sermon, attend our church bike rally, and prepare for our church picnic.  All in all, the weekend looks to be great!
