How words change!

I guess dictionaries are somewhat like laws.  Often they just document what is already happening in society.

Here’s one of the latest — a definition of "marriage," from the Online Dictionary of Miriam Webster.

Main Entry:
\?mer-ij, ?ma-rij\
Middle English mariage, from Anglo-French, from marier to marry
14th century

1 a (1): the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2): the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same-sex marriage> b: the mutual relation of married persons : wedlock c: the institution whereby individuals are joined in a marriage

2: an act of marrying or the rite by which the married status is effected ; especially : the wedding ceremony and attendant festivities or formalities

3: an intimate or close union <the marriage of painting and poetry — J. T. Shawcross>

So, we can have debates over whether there is legal or moral precedence for same-sex marriage, but at this point there is a now officially a definition (although somewhat ambiguous by saying it is "like a traditional marriage" — got to love those adjectives!!).

  1. Just proves that sometimes the dictionary is helpful, other times questionable.

And this is another reminder for all of us to remain in God’s Word, to stand for what is God’s Way, and to encourage one another to keep on doing good.

Have a great day. Take a moment and stop to watch what the Lord is doing right there.

Against Christians, against Muslims, against all anti brahmins. Dondu Ragavan keeps blogs for them to use gutter Tamil.A true TP should hate Muslims and Christians and their religions and their Gods, Prophets etc. Like a Jihadi believes if he kills kafirs, he can sit at the feet of Allah, a true TP believes that Siva, Murugan, Pillaiyaar will bless them, only if they open a blog to abuse Islam and Christianity, or give hyperlink to such blogs in Dondu Ragavan’s blog.If you use fair and decent language against him / them, when Arul or they criticise your caste, you are a coward. You are a pesudo TP or a pesudo Hindu. Go and lick the feet of muslims and christians. But you wont deserve to be called a coward if and when you have to use abusive lanuguage to your rival who has already used abusive language against you. That is justified on ethical grounds.
