Friendship

A few months ago I began a sermon series on following hard after God.  My associate then had a four week series on listening to God – mostly on prophecy.

As I contemplated where to head next, the idea of friendship arose.  Of course, I’m in a whole “new normal”.  Friendships I have had for years are now being reevaluated – both on my part and on the part of others.

For many years it was always – Jill and Ron.  Now it’s – Ron.  Where Jill carried a friendship, I have had to decide whether to step up my involvement or trust God to provide others to do that.  Where I have been the primary initiator in the friendship, I have had to decide what is appropriate to continue.

Which has brought me to the matter of the core of friendship.  I am finding that those I talk to – those who have suffered loss in different ways – are quick to point out that we have to start with God.  That we have to return to our first love – Jesus.  That’s the foundation.

So today, I’m going to try and explain that in my sermon.  Pray with and for me as the words flow and the ideas go out to others.

The Name

A grandson can’t be nameless long.

Scott and Alli poured over names, discussed and decided.

Thomas Cooper Opseth, born on October 18th to proud parents, Scott and Allison Opseth!

Thomas is Scott’s middle name.  May Thomas grow to be a man of integrity and loyalty as his father is!

Cooper was Jill’s maiden name.  May Thomas grow to be a person of love and compassion as his grandmother was!

God’s blessings!

Grandpa again!

Well, my daughter Allison had her third child on Thursday, October 18th at 9:50 in the morning.  7 lbs. 1/2 oz., 20 3/4 inches long (got to love the places metric has never gone!).  The family is doing very well!New kid on the block with opseth family - oct 18, 2012

And so is Grandpa!

The (almost) phone call!

My daughter Allison called me last night.

After the niceties of saying “Hi” and “How are you?”, she mentioned that she had been to see the doctor.

His verdict?

A child to be born.  Today.  Maybe tomorrow.  Certainly within the next few days.

I’m preparing my bags to make a visit.  Not sure when.  But looks like this could be a great day (or next day, or the day after!).
