From a/many pastors’ desks

Here is a current quote that is going around.  Not sure who wrote this – some say Michael Card, others a bishop from somewhere, others give not attribution.  One of our local pastors posted this – rather relevant:

As church attendance numbers fade across the nation and online services become very convenient, it’s important to remember why church attendance for you and your family matters so much.

You can’t serve from your sofa. You can’t have community of faith on your sofa. You can’t experience the power of a room full of believers worshipping together on your sofa.

Christians aren’t consumers. We are contributors. We don’t watch. We engage. We give. We sacrifice. We encourage. We pray by laying hands on the hurting. We do life together.

The church needs you and you need the church.

A visit

I get to hang out at Eston College in Regina tomorrow!  This I enjoy – when youth and “older” youth meet.  I love the drive for a dream.  And the idea of the future being a lively inspiration.  May I never lose that fire to be close to the fire!

Photo of the day:  (Just a bit of an explanation here – when I look for a photo, I merely open up photos on my computer and find one that is interesting.  The photo may be old, new or sometimes one that is floating around with no date on it.)  On this photo you notice the beautiful flooring or the odometer/speedometer on my exercise bike.  Which did you see first?  I’m sure there’s some research out there about what that means for your mental state.  Let’s just conclude that you are still alive and breathing if you saw something!  And if you saw the odometer first – and noted the number 59000 – you are a very special person Smile

For your thoughts

I’m working with a friend on a Christian manifesto.  Not a manifesto for overthrowing all that is bad around us – although that would be a result.  More a manifesto – upon finding we are oppressed, what leads to true freedom.  The pinpoint appears to be the cross of Jesus.

Any comments?

The fun of government and big business

The fun things that happen with government legislation.

With the newest “social media” bill having been passed, you cannot get to Canadian news outlets (and I use that term to cover a wide range of outlets) on Facebook.  That is a Facebook decision (basically to not pay for links that people put on directing to the outlets – purportedly because they take away advertising and do not pay royalties – that’s a whole other day’s discussion).  Prompted by a government attempt to provide authors with royalties.

So, I can’t direct you to the editorial I place in Kindersley Social print editions – or at least the link to the print editions.  If I put on the website address it will not allow me to use the address.  So, you need to go directly to Kindersley Social website to see my writing.  Which is not a bad thing.  But as with any marketing, the quick click when you come across a mention is much easier than remembering to head to the website of the news outlet at a later point.

Just for the fun of it all, I invite you to head to the website of Kindersley Social (which really began as more of a social contact space and then moved on to help people find news that was relevant to the area).  Look for a tab called Print Archives.  If you open the archives, I provide an editorial in each print edition on the third page.

Enjoy!
