Calvin and Mary Baker have arrived — along with my sister, Nadia Smith.
So, here we are! Walking on the sidewalk a block from our house.
A truck is headed towards us. In front of the truck are two kids. They look around 5 – 8 years of age.
No helmets. No sense of the truck advancing on them.
They careen from side to side. The first child passes us with a “Hi!”. She smiles. I smile. I wonder if she realizes how little weight she has in comparison to the truck.
The second child pedals by. He flicks open a cell phone. He dials someone. He begins to talk.
No helmet — no sense of impending traffic — and a cell phone to boot!
Oh, to be 8 again!!
In the past year I have had close dealings with two cancer patients who have passed away. The last one we buried on Friday.
Today I heard word that my aunt, Clara Mae, has cancer and her life expectancy is short.
Some days a break would be in order. But I’m seeing that the more extensive your sweep of friends, the more probable the impact of cancer on your circle of friends.
God bless, both those with cancer and their caregivers!
