Quite literally today, I baked!
Now, I’m a Baker, but not a baker! So, over these last few weeks, I’ve been trying to learn a little bit about cooking and making meals. I actually enjoy the idea – the actual thing is another thing!
My son showed me how to make apple pie when he was here a few weeks ago. I sent for the recipe Saturday and Tim forwarded the recipe yesterday.
I purposed today to try it out.
Now wonder many women don’t cook pies. The crust is the real obstacle. I threw out the first batch when I couldn’t quite roll it right. The second batch had problems as well, but I wasn’t about to try a third time!
Below is the result. Haven’t tried it out yet – but by faith I’m believing that I will survive the taste test and enjoy the results!!
I learned a trick about rolling out pastry that you might want to try.
Dampen the counter top. Lay down a section of plastic wrap somewhat larger than the pastry size on the dampened surface. Place quantity of pastry on the plastic wrap. Cover with another sheet of plastic wrap. Roll out pastry to the size and thickness desired. Remove the top layer of plastic wrap. Lay the pie plate upside down on the pastry. Lift the plastic wrap and pastry and pie plate up and invert so that the pie plate has the pastry in it. Carefully remove the plastic wrap. Trim off the excess pastry – fill and bake.
I hope this is clear — if not, you can always ask for better instructions. 🙂
If you don’t make it to work tomorrow morning, should I come check on you? 🙂 Just kidding. I’m sure it’s wonderful!
Wow, I am impressed, Ron !! You must have been really hungry for an apple pie !!
I have a recipe that makes 3 apple pies, which after carefully wrapped up can be placed in freezer and then baked when you want them. If you want one in a hurry, you can always buy pie crusts in the freezer section of the grocery store, and fill them with your apples, sugar and flour and spice mixture. Jill would have got a good laugh out of this !! Mom Cooper
