Christmas early

Just back from Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan.  There we sat in the basement of the home in which mom now resides.  The decision was made to eat Christmas dinner with her there instead of disrupting her daily routine by taking her away from the familiar.

10 adults, two children surrounded the tables.  Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, french cut beans, marshmallow salad, green salad, apple pie, pumpkin pie, . . .

What else do you need for food?  Nothing!!

And the table included talk and singing.  Mom, although she cannot remember a conversation from 10 minutes ago, remembered all the words of carols that we sang.  She still has a beautiful alto voice – her harmonies are to enjoy and treasure.

All in all, a good time had by all!!!

Be sure your words will find you out!

From the Friday, December 18th devotional booklet, Men of Integrity:

If you are given a chance to be a role model, I think  you should always take it because you can influence a person’s life in a positive light, and that’s what I want to do. — Tiger Woods (professional golfer)

Sous-chef

My wife has been baking.  Some of the goodies headed out today to various visitants.  The seniors we met were appreciative and encouraging.

As we stepped in the door around supper time, a few more sausage rolls needed completed.

Option #1:  I sit and cheer on my good wife.

Better Option:  I grab a tea towel, wash the dishes as she prepares the dough, and roll a few sausages rolls myself.

This is fun.  Jill does not tire too much.  The baking takes shorter.  And I feel fulfilled in my role as a sous-chef.

So, any of you who need to feel fulfilment, consider being a servant.  Not a bad idea – I think I heard someone a few millenia ago mention just such an approach!!

To all a good night

A famous saying that has much good to be said for it.

Tonight some will approach their mattress fearing what tomorrow will hold.  Others are sick and breath escapes them.  Others see their own mental capacity slipping away.

A simple request, an exquisite request, a desperate plea.

Let us trust God tonight for just that – to all a good night!
