Our main speaker – George Bullard

George Bullard is a church consultant and speaker.  His main idea is to get churches functioning to their potential.  And even when you seem to  have achieved that, you are just headed into the next potential area.

What a great reminder.  You can check out his website at www.bullardjournal.org

The first night he talked about churches being either tourists or travellers.  This related to the way in which we reach out to others around us.  We can merely show up off and on, enjoy the short term project and retreat back to our own turf.  Or we can pack as though we are not coming back.

What would that look like?  Are we ready to reset our programs so that they look nothing like what we have done before — but they will be accessible to those we want to reach?  Are we ready to accept a different group of friends realizing we may not be coming back to see our old friends?

Tough questions, but worth the consideration.

District Conference

Our denomination holds a District (Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and parts of Ikaluit and Ontario) policy and meeting conference every two years.  This Monday – Wednesday is our biennial meeting.

I’ll be there.  I’ll chair a finance committee.  I’ll enjoy great speakers.  I’ll eat good food.  I’ll share in making decisions.  I’ll go with a friend.  I’ll miss home.

See you back here in a few days.

Ezekiel bread

Never tried it before.  Will try it again.  You can pick up the recipe off the internet by just entering “Ezekiel Bread”.

Our youth group were challenged to obey God regardless of how unexpected things would be.  This is the case with Ezekiel, an Old Testament prophet.  He was very dramatic and certainly unpredictable (actually God was unpredictable, Ezekiel just followed through).  We talked about not getting enough exercise (he was lying on his one side for 390 days!), about small portions of food he ate, and cooking over a cow dung fire.

All good illustrations to remind us that we should do what God asks us to do, regardless of how weird things may seem!!
