How words change!

I guess dictionaries are somewhat like laws.  Often they just document what is already happening in society.

Here’s one of the latest — a definition of "marriage," from the Online Dictionary of Miriam Webster.

Main Entry:
mar·riage
Pronunciation:
\?mer-ij, ?ma-rij\
Function:
noun
Etymology:
Middle English mariage, from Anglo-French, from marier to marry
Date:
14th century

1 a (1): the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2): the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same-sex marriage> b: the mutual relation of married persons : wedlock c: the institution whereby individuals are joined in a marriage

2: an act of marrying or the rite by which the married status is effected ; especially : the wedding ceremony and attendant festivities or formalities

3: an intimate or close union <the marriage of painting and poetry — J. T. Shawcross>

So, we can have debates over whether there is legal or moral precedence for same-sex marriage, but at this point there is a now officially a definition (although somewhat ambiguous by saying it is "like a traditional marriage" — got to love those adjectives!!).

At 2:00 we were at a shower for two children.  Karter and Jeremiah are newly adopted (2 and 3 years old).  They are great kids, with child like enthusiasm.  The love to color and play cars.

At 2:30 we arrived at our local seniors manor.  There we met a number of our church adherents and members.  We enjoy their long lives.  Some have dementia, others have bodies that don’t function the way they did when they were three years old.

All have life from God.  And we celebrate their lives.  Young and Old.

Both my wife and I headed opposite directions today.

I was down the road to Rosetown with the Elders of the church.  We were inspired to consider what we can be doing as a church.  And how to get there.

Jill was down the road to Kelfield – population 3, provided the old man has not died recently!  Actually they were just outside Kelfield cleaning a farm house for friends to occupy.

She came home tired.  And energized.  I came home energized and am now tired.

Good night to all.  May your Sunday prove to be a time of good will, peace and joy found in Jesus Christ!

I love good music.  I love music done with the heart.  And when it comes from around the world (and is, incidentally, from my era!), it’s great.

My sister emailed these links to two videos you may want to listen to!  Just click on the song!

“Stand by me”

“One Love”
