In the Zone

Or should I say, in the office.

After almost a week of being in Ottawa, the feeling is funny to end up walking into a familiar office at 7:00 this morning.

Of course, the first thing is to set up the "coffee" and eat an apple as I run through administrative details.  A few phone calls to check out things and people.

At lunch I headed to the hospital.  I had touched base with a cancer patient a few weeks ago.  Back today to just give reassurance and pray.  She appreciates the time and her family also expresses appreciation.

The afternoon I finally admit to myself that I’m tired.  An hour’s rest is better than nothing.  And in the evening I’m out for coffee and encouragement!

So, there is today’s zone.

Certainly not a war zone.  But where struggles and joys are all part of everyday life.  Rather, this is a zone of life where coming alongside others is good and right!   And right where I should be!

This has been a long but short week.  I left on Tuesday to overnight in Saskatoon.  The next morning, at 6:00 am, I flew to Ottawa for the meeting of our denomination – Assembly 2008.  The meetings completed on Sunday.  Today, Monday, we were again on the plane early in the morning – thankful to be back in Saskatchewan following  enjoyable and inspiring meetings.

From my hotel room window.  I shared the lodging with one of our elders in the church, Brian Kehrer.

Looks like Ottawa is just around the corner.  I board a flight at 6:00 am and arrive in Ottawa at 1:20 (their time).  Then off to an orientation session and planning meetings.

Should be fun — if I can stay awake!!

The grass is green!

I am sitting at my sister’s house in Rosetown writing this post.

I’ve just been outside cutting their grass.  The lawn mower is an electric cordless type.  Unfortunately the battery isn’t made quite as large as their lawn.  For the last few passes my neice and I carried the charger and electric cord, alternating sides to be sure we didn’t cut the cord.

In the end the lawn is beautiful.  I’ve had a great visit with my parents.  And I’m headed home.

I was supposed to be picking up my son in Saskatoon, but his flight from San Juan didn’t quite connect properly.  So, he’s in Newark tonight and back to Saskatoon tomorrow.  Which works out well.  We were to be in Saskatoon for Canada Day and then I head to Ottawa with my friend Brian on Wednesday.

Good night – I’ve got an hour’s travel home and then I’m off to bed and ready for a new day.
