Slogans

I’ve become known amongst some people for my slogans.  Most are lame (they need another leg to walk on?).  Some are just a thought for the moment.  Others seem to last.

One phrase we have been using at our church has been – “committed to the community.”  I’ve been looking at adding two further thoughts – “Submitted to Christ,” and “Excited to serve.”  They probably need a little more tweaking – so . . . any thoughts?

Do we need a therapist?

I’ve finished reading a book called “11”, by Leonard Sweet.  Here is an interesting statement from his acknowledgements:

“In a culture where the commoditication of relationships is so severe that we have disposable kinfold, it may come as somewhat of a surprise that “good relationships” are key to a healthy, happy life.  This book was written because of the need for more specificity in what kinds of “good relatinships” keep us from not needing a therapist.”

Sweet goes on to talk about a Nathan, a Jonathan, Jethro, Timothy, Barnabas, Peter, Paul, Deborah, Zacchaeus, Rhoda, VIPS, Jerusalme and the Paraclete.  Although at sometimes the writing feels a little rushed, the overall idea of the book is great!

Acappella music

Just for your listening pleasure – acappella men’s chorus.  Check out the name “Coro Mongioje Imperia”.

Although the recording is not great, the idea of a men’s chorus always intrigues me!  I’ve sung in them over the years, and as my high school singing “mentor”, Doug Richards, always proclaimed – there’s no better music instrument than the human voice.  Most of the recordings are in a beautiful cathedral setting with great acoustics.

Sluffing off

This morning was a busy one!  Up early to clean up the week which is full of committee meetings and activities.  Also helped my wife do some preparations for a meal she caters tomorrow.

Busy!

Which makes the afternoon all the more fun.  Rested for an hour, then listened to some new music on the internet.  Looked at an old photo of a singing group I once toured with (from 1975 when I had hair).  Came across a free music site called www.noisetrade.com – a site where a lot of Christian music samples can be heard and downloaded for free.  Amazing what is available (and has been for awhile) that just passes you by.

And now I’m lazily leaning back and considering what I don’t have to do for the rest of the day.
