“The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears.”
Some days you run across something on the net!
Today it was a short excerpt from a poem quoted on a website by Nancy Nordenson, found in the section where she gives her daily quotes:
“The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears.” by John Vance Cheney, (1848 – 1922) an Amercian poet and librarian – not a bad combination!
I immediately started a further search of the net and found the complete poem. It appears that the quote is from his poem “Tears” – not a bad approach to sorrow and tough times.
Not in the time of pleasure
Hope doth set her bow;
But in the sky of sorrow,
Over the vale of woe.Through gloom and shadow look we
On beyond the years!
The soul would have no rainbow
Had the eyes no tears.
