Well, actually that is “land ahoy,” and “anchors away!”

The next few weeks we will be away from computers and out by the lake.  See you next month!  I’ll get some pictures to show you what you missed!!

Japan thoughts!

From 1:30 – 3:00 this afternoon we met with Don and Carol Love.  They are missionaries in Japan — home for a year while Don teaches at our Canadian Bible College, and Carol works with accounting assignments for the mission.

We’ll be working with the Loves to link to Japan.  Perhaps there are ways in which we can be helpful to them, and ways in which they can benefit us.

The most interesting “take-away”?

We are not far from being like Japan.  A younger generation that doesn’t have any religious loyalties.  A psyche within those under 30 that doesn’t comprehend the story of Jesus.  A culture that is changing.

The whole world is a stage — amazing how much of the props and the actors are the same which ever country you end up in!!

You'd never have guessed!

The highway through our town seems busy.  There are trucks throughout the day — constantly stopping at the Tim Horton’s or other coffee bars.  The three traffic lights on the highway seem overkill.

Until today.  I was with a friend headed to an eye appointment.  Shortly out of town, on our way to Saskatoon, an accident had occurred.  Probably around 9:30 in the morning — we arrived at 11:00 or so.

As far as I can determine, a semi-truck with some rolls of steel had tipped over.  The steel was still on the highway.  The truck was just being towed away.

One lane of highway was open.  A flag person, after about 10 minutes, waved us through.

We surveyed the highway, gouged where the steel had fallen.  Then we looked at the lineup of cars awaiting our passing.  And we looked, and we looked, and we looked . . . for about a mile.  People were standing outside their cars, straining their necks to see what had happened.  An SUV had decided to try the ditch and was slowly plowing towards the accident scene.

At one point a tourism announcement had proclaimed that 5 million vehicles pass through Kindersley each year.  Now, I’m beginning to believe them!

They're off!

Or at least I think so.

Mom and Dad arrived in Calgary in time for their flight at 2:00.  The flight was cancelled.  We were able to reschedule them for a 4:50 flight.

We then proceeded to Kelsey’s (in the airport) for lunch.  One hour later we finally had out lunch.  By then we were not sure if they had gone out to catch the cow!  The steak was alright, not unusual.

Looked for a laptop computer.  No sales but great computers!

Left Calgary with no computer,  parents gone and a four hour drive home.  Arrived back at 10:00 and we are off to bed soon.  The past month and a half have been a learning experience.  I’m getting to know more and more the thought — “Live one day at a time, tomorrow has enough evil of its own.”
