Phoning tree!

Day’s off tend to be “on” days for the phone.

Our son called from shipside – he could be home in a month or so.  Called a single mother who needs a washing machine.  Contacted two people with cancer.  Jill talked with a colleague in her “Kids in the Kitchen” program.

And all before the evening falls.

Some would call this interruption – I call it community.  Keep the conversation going!

Pictures and more pictures

My task today??

Pick out church related pictures — ones that I have taken since we arrived here in the summer.

They are now sudivided and placed in folders.  From AWANA to Youth; XYZ to 756.  A few of the people at the church have asked for them, so I’ve made some CD’s as well.

The total number of pictures?  341!  And that doesn’t include at least as many that weren’t worth using.

Not that all of the pictures are professional quality, but they do document some of the church activities.

Do I have a favourite?  Hard to tell but this one is right up there!

OK, so maybe she isn’t our best parishioner, but nobody’s pulling her strings!!

Listening to stories around town!

Recently in a town nearby, a grade school teacher mentioned Adam and Eve to his class.  Now remember, this story takes place in an area where the majority religion is Christianity, to such an extent that when Christian ministers pray in pulbic they are expected to invoke the name of Jesus.

The response was blankness — no context was available to them.  As though Adam and Eve never existed — either literally or in literature!

And I began to wonder, “where is history without the Bible?”

Just the other day, I overheard a conversation as I walked into a local restaurant.

“So, when is the psychic coming to town?”   The questioner was asking with eagerness, tipped slightly forward on the chair.

Walking home, I began to wonder, “why seek out a psychic when there are plenty of Christians?”

If I keep hearing stories like this, I may soon begin to wonder, “where is God in our society?”  Or has that already been answered?

Hyposcrisy

I’ve placed a longer quote of this David Miller thought on my theology blog

“Hypocrisy cannot define the instant of its birth.  It is nurtured when silf-interest and God’s interest pass close enough that one deed serves both”
