Three reunions

In the space of a month – and that really isn’t a lot of space!

Relatives are great to have around.  You sit and reminisce, think of the past and may even talk of the future.  In the best of reunions you play games, and guitars and wake the neighbours and watch fireworks.  That’s been our experience to date.  On Thursday we head to the final of the three planned reunions.

This final reunion is coordinated with the 100th birthday of our town, a town in which my aunts and uncles were born and raised.  So, not only will we survey the land of life as relatives, but also as neighbours and friends meet from around the world.

So, there will be fireworks, and free pancake breakfast, and professional music, and more food and fun and fellowship.

What more could one ask?

Well, we arrived home last night amidst water on the basement floor – our water heater had just begun to leak.  Thank God that the whole thing hadn’t broken completely open and gushed forth waves of water.  As it happened, one box got a bit wet, and nothing else.

So, this morning the first order of business was to get a plumber over.  The job was done by supper time and we were washing our clothes shortly thereafter.

Now, it’s time to get back into the groove.  We bought some groceries and ran across 3 or 4 friends.  After chatting we finally got home with a reminder that home is a great place to be!!

Observations on locales other than . . .

Walking through Belleville, Ontario . . . other striders (those serious about walking in the early morning) have all put on cologne.  As they pass you, the smells waft forth!  The old age walkers begin about 8:00 in the morning.  Saturday morning is busy with garage salers and those headed to church breakfasts.

Walking through Georgetown, Ontario . . . The suburb we are in is disconnected from the town so all strollers are doing it for exercise, for the dogs exercise or just for the fun of it.  The homes are extravagant on the front and about 2 feet deep.

Next few days we will visit the thrift store (Waste Wise!) and see the sights.  Then venturing home will become the next project beginning on Tuesday.

So, here we are a few days ago.  The sun is shining and people are enjoying the day.  Before everyone leaves, Jill’s mom and her siblings and one nephew, along with the families pose for the “family portrait”.  What fun to be together – but too soon to part.
