Upon reflection

Last night a group of around 70 citizens got together to talk about Drugs and Alcohol in Kindersley.  The evening forum went well – good food to eat and good discussion around the tables.

Upon reflection a few things . . . drugs and alcohol are a reflection of deeper issues . . . a community needs to stand behind enforcement . . . to those dealing drugs we need to let them know this is not acceptable . . . “warning: this message may offend some of you” . . . there is enough momentum to keep going!

So, let’s see where this takes us!

In the thinking mode!

For the past few months I  have been thinking.  Not just normal thinking – like whether to eat oatmeal or Cheerios.  Or whether I should use a black pen or a blue pen.

No, I’m taking time thinking about beliefs and convictions.  Too often we merely come close to issues and wait.  Sometimes that is the right place to be, as God asks us to be still and know!  Sometimes it is not.

When the issue stands in front of us, perhaps the best thing to do is confront!  I can’t say I’ve walked through the path to a conclusion.  But I am on  the road.  I’m seeking God’s thinking, and the thinking of others who also seek God.

I find that this type of thinking arises, almost on a regular basis.  I could wish that God would dump all wisdom on me all at once!  Not so!  But I’m thankful for God’s promise that if we ask for wisdom he will give generously to those who ask.

So, I’m asking and trusting.

Three questions

I’ve had great fun with this Sunday’s sermon.  Three questions are designed to help us be actively humble.  Although it may seem like we are being sacrilegious, they are a point of entrance into prayer that is intense and focused.

Here is a quote from the sermon.

Sharp discussion with God will motivate you to pray more often. You see, if you really believe that God is listening to you, you will be out there toe to toe and face to face. You will be ready to match his instructions with your own questions.

Pick up the sermon online Sunday night, if you are able to be at the sermon.  Check out the sermon tab on our church’s website – www.kindersleyalliance.com.  Look for the sermon on Moses in our series  on “Living under – leading forward.”

I am second

There is a movement that has been gathering in the wind.  The internet wind.

Called “I Am Second”, videos are available on the net.  A number of high profile people are a part of the message.  I had encountered it a year or so ago, as the website was progressing and material was just becoming available.  Now, the website www.iamsecond.com is fully functional and inviting.  For those who are web savvy, this is a notch above other sites.

The idea?  That God is first and we are second.  Jesus Christ is the entrance point to knowing the one who is first.  Over the years I’ve been a part of this invitational approach to letting others know about Jesus.  We have seen such approaches as Four Spiritual Laws, Steps to Peace with God, EE, and Alpha.

Last year our church explored The Truth Project.   A great series that is mainly geared for those who have been Christians for some time.  The I Am Second series is more for those who have not been Christians.

This Sunday, in our Family Bible School hour, I’m hoping we will have a little more discussion on this tool.  Perhaps this “next step” approach can help us in our community.  We’ll see.
