Cleaning the garage

To move things in, one must move things out!

That is going to be my mantra over these next few days.

I am preparing to have Cynthia (my fiance) move her household goods to this house.  That means I will need to make room for more things.  And she will need to pare down her own household goods.

Now, how does one go about this?

From a number of moves, one of the first things is to find duplicates.  In the garage I had three ice scrapers for my windshield.  Not all are needed.

I suppose finding things that are just plain worn out is next.  I had a piece of board that was broken.  And I mean split in half.  Not needed and no need to be found for it.

Finally, I’m working on things that have no sentimental value, will probably never be used, and are best placed in a garage sale.

And so, my garage is now a storage unit.  Hopefully soon I can rid myself of some of these goods.

I guess that’s what they call good riddance!

Passing through

Well, the weekend is proving to be busy!

On Thursday evening, I was able to spend time with my daughter and her family in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan.  Three grandkids are a handful – and a handful I would be more than glad to have around at anytime.

We ate together and enjoyed exploring new cell phones that had been bought.  I went for a walk with the two oldest grandchildren in the rain – amazing how shoes can hold as much water as the last puddle they stepped in.

From there I headed to a wedding rehearsal I was overseeing.  The rain of the weekend plagued us all the way along.  This was to have been an outdoor wedding on a beach in Northern Saskatchewan – a place called Waskesiu.  Instead we all ended up inside enjoying close fellowship.

Friday night was a family gathering – at least for me this was the new family I will become an official part of in a month’s time.  My reason for being there was that I was officiating my “to be” nephew’s wedding – this was the rehearsal party.

The next morning, Saturday, the rain continued.  By 10:00 we were off to set up the alternate site – a beautiful rustic hall, then the wedding, then the reception and by 8:30 in the evening I was back on the road, headed to Airdrie where there is a concert tomorrow.  This past evening I was able to get a few hours of sleep here in Kindersley and as I write this I am preparing to head out to a concert in Airdrie this afternoon.

On the road again!

30 days to go!

That was what greeted me on our wedding website today.

One month and I will be remarried.  Seems surrealistic.  This past week I served on a committee with a widow whose husband passed away just in this past year.  Yesterday I was with a fellow the same age as I am (actually only one month between our ages) – his wife is in the final stages of cancer.  Both are struggling with issues that I have had to deal with this past year.

What is it like to live through this past year of widow(er)hood?  I didn’t know what was coming, nor do I still understand completely where things are headed.  I just know that I have a peace from God.  I have a sense of knowing that, as I am encouraged in my Bible study, I am headed in a proper direction.  I am thankful to all those who have come alongside to support me and congratulate me in my remarriage.  As my header on this blog says – daily life as life goes on . . .

30 days to go!  And life goes on!

What comes next?

Funny how, when you are given time and space to work on things, the little foxes gather.  They are the distractions that aren’t necessarily bad things, just distractions.

As we come close to our wedding date, I’m finding that distractions are also sometimes easier to do than the next thing on the list.

Put those two combinations together and this morning I’m sitting here with places to go and people to see and life to accomplish.

First on the list is a very mundane thing.  But something that has been sidelined for a day or so.

So, before I continue on with a lot of other things. . .

Off to water my plants!!
