Powerpoint at the ready!

I’m having fun today as I prepare my sermon for Sunday.

The sermon will be shorter.  There are a number of prompters to worship besides the sermon.  So, I’m punching twice as much into the sermon — using additional powerpoint "oomph!"

What do I find so interesting?  Over the past few years I’ve taken a number of photographs.  This powerpoint will feature a number of those pictures.  People, things, landscapes, workshops — just the type of portraits that will hopefully give an added perspective.

Tomorrow?  A final run through — revamping of the sermon script.  Possibly revamping the powerpoint.

By the way, have you heard of a new sport dubbed pecha-kucha (Japanese for “chatter”).  You use powerpoint:  a simple set of rules – exactly 20 slides displayed for 20 seconds each, for a total presentation time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds. 14 presenters going head to head in an evening "competition".  Might be something church youth groups could explore??

Getting older?

A few days ago I was labelled a senior.

Not that I really mind.  I am into my 50’s.  But then, I’m not 93, like one of my friends.

I guess I still figure being over 60 is senior.  Or even over 65.  At least I can get a pension at that age.

So what does "seniorism" bring?  A slower lifestyle — you can’t go as fast as you used to even if you wanted to.  A mature approach — some people call this getting ripe.  A heightened sensitivity — there’s more points of pain the older you get.

OK, so that doesn’t sound so good.  But, deep down I actually like my age and my skin.  Now, if I could just get more hair!

Staging

Somedays you forget!

In a past life, I coordinated a number of drama productions.  They ranged from skits to full length productions with flats and blocking, scene changes and full staging.

Tonight I felt back into it!  We needed a small stage area for a drum set in an upcoming concert.  The size was inconsequential.  Here I was once again smelling the wood and putting together a platform.  Old days flood back.  Seeing a stage built four feet high to serve as a "radio station".  Complete staging around a large platform to provide a running area for the actors behind the action.

When you’ve seen what can be done, you seldom stop at merely adequate.

So tonight, for three hours I worked on a small 6′ x 6′ platform that will be solid enough for drums, should absorb the rhythm, and is heavy enough to strain my back.

But all in all — it will work!!

Our son heads home next week!

Just got a call this afternoon.

Tim is headed home next Sunday.  It will probably be late in the evening when he arrives in Saskatoon.  He’s here for two months.

Now that we have a date, I’m excited that he will be back with us soon.
